AI CODE DETECTOR GUIDE

Can an AI code detector tell if code was copied?

No. Is My Code AI reports matches to configured code-style rules; it does not identify a source that the code was copied from. A score or highlighted line cannot establish originality, copying, or who wrote the code.

Is My Code AI analyzes submitted code locally in your browser.

What a matched rule means

A report lists the heuristic rules that matched the submitted text and the lines associated with those matches. For example, a comment pattern or a descriptive identifier may appear in code for many reasons, including ordinary project conventions. The match describes a pattern in the input; it is not a match to another program or a published source.

The detector's score combines the weights of the rules it matched. It is not a similarity score between two codebases and does not name a source.

How to follow up on a copying concern

Start with the specific code and the source you are concerned about. Compare the relevant passages directly, and check the project's revision history or other available provenance. Record what was compared and the exact versions so another reviewer can inspect the same material.

You can use an AI code detector report to choose lines for a closer technical read, but a style signal alone does not connect those lines to another author or source. If you do not have a suspected source, this report cannot supply one.

Keep the questions separate

  • Code-style signal: Did one of this detector's configured patterns match the submitted text?
  • Source similarity: Does the code resemble a specific reference when the two are compared?
  • Authorship: What evidence shows who created or contributed the code?

Is My Code AI answers only the first question. Its report is not proof of copying or proof that code is original.

Review code locally
