AI CODE DETECTOR GUIDE

Why does an AI code detector flag comments?

Is My Code AI flags a comment only when one of its published heuristic rules matches the comment's text or structure. A flagged comment is a review prompt, not proof of AI use or authorship.

In Is My Code AI, analysis stays in your browser.

Comments are evaluated by specific rules

Is My Code AI shows the name of each matched rule and the line involved. Its comment-related rules cover an explicit AI-tool attribution in a comment, boilerplate explanatory comment phrasing, long documentation-style comments, and repeated adjacent comments.

The report does not label every comment as suspicious. It identifies only the comments that match one of these configured patterns in the code you supplied.

Read the rule before interpreting the line

A rule match tells you what pattern was found, not why the developer wrote the comment. A detailed explanation may document a difficult business rule. Two adjacent comments may be a deliberate walkthrough. A visible mention of an AI tool may be a note, an example, or text copied from a task.

Start with the rule name, then read the full comment and the code immediately around it. This keeps the review connected to the actual signal instead of treating a highlight as a conclusion.

Do not turn a comment into an authorship claim

Comments can be affected by team templates, documentation standards, code generators, tutorials, and ordinary engineering habits. The same style can have more than one explanation.

For that reason, Is My Code AI's heuristic score and flagged comments cannot establish who wrote the code or show that a particular AI product was used. Use the report to decide where to look more closely, not to make an authorship decision.

What to check next

Review the enclosing function, the project's comment conventions, commit history, issue context, and review discussion. If the comment is clear and useful in context, a matching heuristic rule may simply reveal a limitation of that rule.

If a comment points to a real question, gather evidence from the codebase and the development process before drawing a technical conclusion.
